More of Stewart’s work

Then there was more. In May 2014 Stewart’s friend and executor James asked if I would help look after a collection of Stewart’s remaining drawings. By December that year I had scanned and uploaded the drawings to this website. These are paintings, drawings, copies and painted-in photocopies of drawings, and an occasional postcard, that Stewart produced in later years. Some of the pictures are familiar to me from visits to his place, and things he sent with his letters. He painted some of the images on scraps of a Special K cereal box and oddments of paper. You can see his corrections and pencil marks. I also had a stash of cartoons and images that he had sent me, which I have added. The objects themselves have been archived at the Bishopsgate Institute in London.

These drawings and paintings are uploaded here for your pleasure, please enjoy them. They offer more of an insight into Stewart’s queer imagination: animals, monsters, the sea, the strange relationships between people, art, gags, sex and more.
