Welcome to the D
(4.04)
Welcome to the DI took a trip back to Detroit in spring 2004. I'd been there before, a couple of years ago, but I felt as though I had some unfinished business to take care of, so I came back.

I got asked this question the whole time that I was in Detroit: "What are you doing here?" it was a sister question to "Why are you going there?" which was asked by my British peers. Hopefully this little Detroit section on my site will explain a few of the reasons why I find the city irresistible and inspiring. You might also like to read my interview with Lowell Bolieau, where he talks about the Fabulous Ruins of Detroit.

By the way, "Welcome to the D" is a piece of graffitti that Simon saw on the side of a building by the Lodge Freeway.
Yes, its derelict   Downtown
There are many derelict buildings in Detroit, but the skyline looks rich. It's only when you stare hard at the broken windows, like looking deeply into the eyes of a liar, that you notice the true fucked-up nature of the buildings.
